Dear Friends:
The challenges faced by healthcare have been in the news more this past year than ever
before; these are indeed extraordinary times. Although healthcare has seen constant
changes, the issues we face today are complex and often daunting.
As Hospital for Special Care faces these uncertain challenges, we will remain committed to
providing the highest level of care, with a focus on resource management. We are proud of
our outcomes, as well as our ability to effectively provide for our patients complex medical
needs and the specialized care they require.
Our culture encourages involvement in strategic planning and problem-solving at all levels.
Our performance over the last year reflects the efforts of many dedicated and talented staff.
Their commitment will become even more vital as we seek to grow, during the challenging
period ahead, so we are able to meet the ever-changing needs of our community.
We are pleased to share our plans for the future. While our core mission continues to meet
the needs of the most complex patients, we see the growing need for outpatient services
that will allow individuals to remain at home during treatment. We have already begun to
expand our clinical areas. As our neuromuscular program has grown, we have redesigned
our space to accommodate children living with Muscular Dystrophy as well as our clinical
trials initiative, which will begin in the spring of 2010, and will focus on research related to
ALS/Lou Gehrig’s Disease and other neuromuscular conditions. |
