Pediatrics
We specialize in caring for medically complex and/or technology-dependent children from infancy through age 18 in our 30-bed pediatric unit, designed for optimum socialization and monitoring. Our goal is to bridge the gap between acute care and the home while meeting every child's social and developmental needs.
Skylights and windows throughout our unit create a bright and cheerful environment for children. Patients' needs vary, so each plan of care is tailored to meet the individual child's needs. Lengths of stay vary as well. Appropriate stable patients are taken on community outings, such as to the movies, circus and shopping for community exposure and reintegration.
Family support is an integral part of the care plan. The hospital has a three-unit Family Guest House that can provide short-term, overnight accommodations so families can be close to their children. |
Our interdisciplinary team approach includes:
- Pediatric nursing care
- Respiratory care including ventilator management
- Continuous Positive Airway Pressure
- Developmental pediatrician
- Physical therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Speech therapy
|
- Therapeutic recreation
- Case management/social work
- Regular care reviews with families

- Regular on-unit consultation by pediatric subspecialists in neurology, pulmonology, otolaryngology, opthalmology and orthopedics

Discharge planning may involve extensive referrals to community agencies and education to families or guardians. In preparation for the transition to home, one of the steps may be a stay in an on-site apartment with pediatric staff support.
