Manes & Motions Newsletter

Manes & Motions

To find out more about enrolling a rider into the program please call the Manes & Motions Program at (860) 685-0008.

Thank you for your interest in Manes & Motions Therapeutic Riding Center. Our staff and volunteers work together as a team to provide the on-going success of our program.

You may have a special feeling that is unique to you that leads to your interest in volunteering for Manes & Motions. The relationships you form with our riders, horses, fellow volunteers and staff, will stay with you, in so many ways, for the rest of your life.

M&M volunteer needs are many. Whether you have experience with horses or not, your willingness to give of yourself and time is of the utmost importance. The many and varied ways volunteers can help are listed on the back of this page. Please read them to determine what areas you would feel most comfortable with and those that will be the most rewarding for you.

Whatever time you can give us is appreciated - all time is precious. If a regular weekly commitment is possible, that would be the ideal. If you have limited time, you can work with our volunteer coordinator to find what works best for you. If you have any further questions/concerns please call the Manes & Motions Volunteer Coordinator at (860) 685-0008.

Working with Special Needs Population

Working with individuals with special needs should not be awkward. However, some feel unsure of how to act. Much of this feeling is due to lack of exposure to those people living with disabilities. Take time to know your client and their specific needs. It's possible that you will gain a friend and acquire new knowledge. Physical or mental impairments may start at birth or may be due to disease, injury or aging. The main barrier is lack of acceptance rather than the disability itself. Lack of acceptance is caused by ignorance, indifference and discomfort.

At Manes & Motions, we strive to overcome these barriers and help all people involved reach their full potential.
