Health Sciences Library
The Health Sciences Library is open to CSC staff, students and interns in affiliated programs, patients and their families. The library is open to other users upon special arrangement. The librarian provides research assistance to users and conducts online database research upon request. Resources for health professionals and consumers are available in the Health Sciences Library.
Library Availability
Open 24 hours a day to HSC staff. Outside users may use the library during staffed hours. For assistance, please call (860) 827-4875. Patients and families should contact the librarian (or designee) to arrange access.
The library is located in the South Wing (3rd floor) and can be reached either by elevator or by stairs.
Library Collection
- General medical texts
- Nursing and allied health references
- Specialty texts related to the areas of rehabilitation, chronic diseases, and continuing care
- Other resources specific to the needs of our patient population (e.g., pulmonary diseases, brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke rehabilitation, neurobehavioral problems, physical medicine and rehabilitation), including both professional and lay literature
- The journal collection mirrors the focus of the book collection
Online Resources
- Catalog
- General Internet access, including links to quality Web sites
- Internet access to MEDLINE and other subscription health databases
- STAT!-Ref – electronic bookshelf including medical texts, drug information, psychological resources
Circulation Policy
- Books circulate for 4 weeks but may be renewed if not on request for another patron. The borrower is responsible for the replacement costs of damaged or lost materials.
- Reference books and journals do not leave the library. Photocopies may be made at no charge.
- Non-hospital staff may not borrow materials unless they are students in an affiliated program and they have submitted a special application. All others must make special arrangements.
Literature Searches
- Literature searches will be run by the librarian upon request.
Interlibrary Loan
Materials not owned by the HSC library will be obtained for users from cooperating institutions. A fee may be charged.

The Health Sciences Library participates in the cooperative lending programs sponsored by the National Library of Medicine. Member libraries may access our resources via interlibrary loan and/or in person.
