Funding Priorities
Adaptive Equipment

To provide the highest quality medical and rehabilitation care to our patients through the use of adaptive equipment. Many are dependent on ventilators or breathing machines to live and all need wheelchairs to get from place to place. Many also require assistive devices, such as switches and adapters, to perform basic functions and utilize therapeutic equipment. Donations to the program are used to purchase these items.

Sports, Training and Leadership Programs

In support of our charitable mission, HSC Community Services provides health, fitness, and educational programs to children, adolescents, and adults with special health needs. In addition to the Ivan Lendl Junior Wheelchair Sports Camp and the Cruisers Wheelchair Track and Field Team, new programs allow adults and children to swim, play basketball and tennis, and attend adapted sports clinics and workshops. New this year is the Manes & Motions Therapeutic Horseback Riding Center.

Nursing Recruitment and Retention - Nursing Scholarships

In an effort to help alleviate the shortage of nurses and, at the same time, support the community, Hospital for Special Care has created the Center of Special Care Nursing Scholarship program funded through the Rona Botwinick Nursing Advancement Endowment Fund and the Hospital for Special Care Annual Fund.

Research

To insure that important clinical research can continue, the Center of Special Care, Inc., has established the Research Endowment Fund. This endowment, established in 2001, will contribute to the Center's mission and vision by establishing a continual financial base for research. The ten-year goal is to raise one million dollars for this endowed fund.

Aquatic Rehabilitation Center

The Aquatic Rehabilitation Center, open six days a week, houses two pools: a warm-water special purpose therapeutic pool for relaxation exercises, pain management, movement work, and pediatric programs, and a larger, cooler, fully accessible fitness pool. The Center also contains a Fitness Room with wheelchair accessible weights and cardiovascular equipment. A fund for this Center was established to support the two most pressing needs, the first is equipment acquisition and maintenance, and the second is membership subsidies. Through this Center we promote health and wellness for all people with disabilities - including our patients and members of the community.
